AMP Robotics Introduces AI-Guided Dual-Robot System for Recycling Sector

AMP Robotics Corp. (AMP), an innovator in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics for the recycling sector, recently announced the introduction of its new AMP Cortex™ dual-robot system (DRS) aimed at material recovery in Electronic Waste (E-waste), Municipal Solid Waste, and Construction and Demolition.

The AMP Cortex DRS expands on their current product series of high-speed recycling robotics steered by the AMP Neuron™ AI platform and employs two high-performance robots that quickly sort, pick, and place materials at an exceptional speed of 160 pieces per minute creating peak productivity. AMP Neuron utilizes computer vision and machine learning to identify various sizes, colors, shapes, textures, and patterns to identify material features. Then, it directs the robots to pick and position the targeted material. The system can work 24/7 with nonstop high-precision sorting, stopping contaminants in material streams, and raising the general quality and purity of commodities to be retrieved. The system is modularly engineered to drop into current facilities without necessitating a major downtime or retrofit, enabling customers to rapidly profit from progressive automation.

The exclusive design of the two robots paves way for new material applications, specifically the ability to resourcefully process tough material streams of post-consumer fiber. From sheets of paper to cardboard, sorting fiber is a huge challenge for recycling lines, repeatedly becoming a pollutant for other recycled commodities. By resolving this challenge, AMP’s technology enhances the purity of materials to be recycled, while also improving the recycling rates of post-consumer recycled fiber on the whole.

The launch of the AMP Cortex dual-robot system marks another key technology milestone for AMP as we continue to advance the application of AI and robotics for the industry. Our latest innovation further improves the economics of recycling by helping waste management companies meet increased quality standards, reduce operational costs, and achieve their productivity goals.

AMP’s most recent announcement follows the latest press about their collaboration with Ryohshin Ltd. to build two new robotic systems using AMP Neuron AI to recycle C&D materials for the Japanese market. Also, most recently, Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the country’s major E-waste recycler, stated plans for extra installations of the AMP Cortex system in their units.

We are very pleased about how our latest material application helps solve the challenge of recycling fiber products. Our AI platform continues to adapt and deepen with new material applications proven by what we have recently achieved with C&D and E-Waste. As we scale our business, we remain focused on continuous improvement and innovation. The launch of our latest AI robotics system serves as another great example of this.

Matanya Horowitz, CEO, AMP

AMP Robotics is participating at WasteExpo 2019, the largest waste management and recycling trade show in the U.S. happening in Las Vegas from May 7th to 9th, 2019. Besides presenting about AI and robotics in recycling at the conference, Horowitz will also be getting Waste360’s “40 Under 40 Award” and their yearly “Innovator of the Year Award”, created to recognize forward thinkers who use technology to advance the waste management sector.
